Teeth in an Hour
Teeth-in-an-Hour or Teeth-in-a-Day is a procedure devised by Nobel Biocare. The technique involves taking a CAT Scan of the jaw and sending to the Nobel Biocare lab for fabrication of surgical stent and teeth. In 2-4 weeks, the stent is available and then surgery is done and teeth are replaced on the implant in 1 hour.
-
Patient has to sit on the chair for an hour only. But if it is a full mouth case it will take more time.
-
The advantage is accuracy of implant placement compared to "freehand" implant placement, but this takes away the tactile sensation from the surgeon's hand. As such it is good for an inexperienced implantologist only.
Disadvantages of Teeth in an Hour
- Requires however optimal bone structures of the maxilla (upper jaw) and mandible (lower jaw) which is rarely seen in patients. Most of the patients have certain deficiencies of bone, which makes this technique less applicable.
- Expensive as CAT Scan is needed and also Nobel Bioguide.
- Waiting period of 2 weeks is necessary for the preparation of the guide.
- This procedure cannot be done in infected cases.
- This procedure cannot be done in cases where extraction and immediate placement is to be done.
Today many companies are making surgical guide stents for implants (like simplant) which are applicable to other implant systems.
Immediate dental implantology has now further evolved not only in technique but also in the design of implants. Please check Dr. Motiwala’s “Permanent teeth in 3 days” which is developed in collaboration with Dr. Stefan Ihde.
